Background information: Mary^9 E. Van Wickler (John^8, John^7, Evert^6, Evert^5, Frederick^4, Evert^3, Gerrit^2, Jentie^1 Jeppes), b. May 1867, L.I., NY. She married Daniel Matthews abt 1884. Daniel appears to have died before 1900 as Mary E. is head of household without Daniel in 1900 US Census. Mary has a granddaughter, Helena Matthews (b. abt 1908) living with her in 1920. By 1930, Helen, Mary, and John (presumably siblings) are living with Mary. It is most likely that these are Foster's children, as Rufus was still single in 1910.

Children:  Foster^10 Matthews, b. May 1883, Long Island, NY; Rufus^10 Matthews, b. September 1885, Long Island, NY; Genesta^10 Matthews, b. 16 May 1890, Inwood, Hempstead, Nassau, NY; Harold^10 Matthews, b. abt. 1891, Long Island, NY

Additional notes from Diane Matthews via 25 Feb 2012 email: From Hannah Kelley's remembrance and death certificate, she was born Hannah Kelley on 13 December 1795 in Bedford, MA. Diane's father is still alive at age 97 and remembers meeting Sarah Chichester Van Wickler as a young boy. Also great aunt Catherine Van Wickler is fondly remembered by him. I am fortunate to have a Bible given to John Foster Van Wickler in May 17, 1853 by Marten VN Ricer. There is no genealogical information in it. Diane's father also met the daughter of Foster Matthews. She went by Helen.
